The war of words has continued but with a few changes. Kerry Healey's stance has not changed.
Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey, campaigning in the town where she lives, yesterday demanded an apology from her Democratic opponent, Deval L. Patrick, saying it was ``inappropriate" for Patrick to accuse her campaign of leaking details about his brother-in-law's 1993 rape conviction.Patrick on the other hand, is beginning a little Clintonian side-shuffle.
"Kerry Healey and her campaign have created an environment that is all about negativity," Patrick said yesterday at the Omni Parker House in Boston, according to a transcript e-mailed by his campaign. ``It's all about a coalition of negative thinking and negative thinkers, that is what produced the crossing of the line that we saw yesterday. She and her campaign are responsible for that. And no, I don't intend to apologize."What I hear him saying is not that Kerry Healey & co. are responsible for the story, rather that the "environment" is "all about negativity" and that is what is reponsible for the story. In other words, Kerry Healey and her campaign had nothing to do with it. Just what our state needs, someone he speak around the truth at any given opportunity.
Further in the little article was this:
Patrick yesterday picked up the endorsement of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police, the Essex County Correctional Officers Association, and The International Brotherhood of Police Officers and The International Brotherhood of Correctional Officers.I've never heard of any of them, so it was time for research. The Massachusetts Coalition of Police is simply a union under the umbrella of the AFL-CIO and has 2400 members (that's out of 19,000 according to the Uniform Crime Report at the FBI). In other words, more union support for the democratic candidate. The International Brotherhood of Police is another police union, again within the realm of the AFL-CIO. More unions.
It's possible to get into dueling endorsements. Kerry Healey's web site shows her endorsement from the State Policy Association of Massachusetts (with the unfortunate acronym of SPAM) and, of course, the Leguer family.
Please elect Kerry Healey.
