Oh, I meant to say, three women's groups.
Seriously though, go here and read all the endorsements from NOW. See a single Republican? I couldn't. In fact I saw this very clearly:
Tell Democratic Leaders that Moving to the Right is the Wrong Strategy. Well gee, I'm glad they're simply an issue oriented organization and don't have a clear political axe to grind or anything. This is a particular jewel:
Women are the vast majority of both the voters for, and fundraising direct mail supporters of, the Democratic Party.
Now, before we start receiving hate mail, I'm absolutely, without equivocation, pro-choice. That said, this organization should be actively seeking people it can support on both, all, sides of the aisle not simply working with a single party all the time.
For example, here is a pro-choice Republican, Kerry Healey
"It's very important that people do know that there are some fairly dramatic differences between where Governor Romney stood on abortion and on stem cell research and emergency contraception and where I stand," Healey said in Framingham, according to the Associated Press. ``And perhaps, we do have to get a better way of getting that information out."
She has a snowball's chance of getting the NOW endorsement, not because of her stance on the issue, but because of that little 'r' next to her name. I'm sorry, that's completely bogus. So, without undue surprise:
Patrick picked up support yesterday from the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund, the Massachusetts chapter of the National Organization for Women, and NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts.
I did several web searches based on the basic search string "'x' endorses republican over democrat." With "National Organization For Women" inserted, I got nothing. NARAL on the other hand does occasionally support Repugs, Lincoln Chaffee being one (yeah, yeah, RINO, whatever). But seriously, to mark this event, as inevitable as the sunrise, as news is a bit of a shock. However, we've got good news:
Patrick led Healey 46 percent to 33 percent, with 7 percent of those questioned backing Christy Mihos and 1 percent backing Green-Rainbow Party candidate Grace Ross. In the survey, 50 percent of women interviewed backed Patrick and just 30 percent backed Healey.
It's looking more and more like a race.
Go Kerry, Go!
