The Globe's editorialists today tried to hook Deval Patrick up with John Adams because of Adams' defense of the soldiers from the Boston Massacre. Patrick's problems are not from defending accused criminals, like John Adams did, but rather his passionate advocacy for convicted criminals. There is a difference. I'm glad that there are men & women out there keeping the legacy of Adams alive. I don't see it in Patricks case. The whole issue that is highlighted by the Leguer and Songer cases are after the conviction not before. After we know that one was convicted by a jury of his peers of raping and torturing a 59 year old woman (with a possibly racist foreman, yes, but that's arguing the jury, not the facts in the case). After the other killed a policeman in cold blood. After, not before.
I think Virginia Buckingham's piece in the Herald sums it up well. Go read it.
Oh, and elect Kerry Healey, not the guy that wants rapists & murders to get out of jail because they're really nice guys underneath the torture & murder stuff.
