Kerry's release of records was only to the Boston Globe and the LATimes. Not a full and open disclosure as I believe President Bush provided. Not to mention that the form itself hasn't been seen, so how does one know that there were no limitations on it.
STILL THERE REMAINS AN IMPORTANT QUESTION: Should we trust the Globe and the Times? Both papers are asking their readers to take their word regarding the precise nature of Kerry's Form 180. Had they the inclination, of course, the papers could easily allay any suspicions regarding the nature of Kerry's Form 180 by publishing a reproduction of it or linking to a PDF of it on their respective websites. Members of both the old media and the new media have suggested as much.I think he has a point. I'm especially interested in why they haven't shared (sold) the released documents to any other news agency. If they really are that harmless, why not let others poke around and see?The fact that the papers eschewed these options is curious. After all, when the Globe ran a front -page story on the enormous cost of parking at Fenway Park, the paper saw fit to publish a reproduction of its photographer's receipt which proved that he did in fact pay $100 to park his car for the Opening Day festivities.
What's more, both papers have refused to share Kerry's records with other publications or to post them on their websites. So, in sum, here's where things stand: In order to settle long-standing and serious accusations, Senator Kerry and his campaign dealt exclusively with two partial newspapers. Those papers, in turn, refused to make completely public or transparent either the nature of the transaction or the precise contents of what they received.
I've been waiting for something to come of this, but all we got was some giggling over Kerry's poor grades. I would have expected a bit more from Squaring the Boston Globe on this topic as well.
I suppose I am over reacting to this nonsense. Though I must say I'm so tired of the "trust me, I'm honest" attitude that certain members of the fourth estate have been giving us. It all leaves a sour taste that they can't just be open with the information and allow the public to make up their own mind with the raw data.

I suspect, but obviously don't know, that Kerry really did sign the form and really did release all the records. However, how typical of the yutz that he couldn't just do it. He had to do it in some convoluted way that makes it appear shady and untoward. All he had to do was sign the farking form, hand it in and walk away, problem solved (assuming there wasn't more interesting stuff in there than his college grades). I'm still curious why his discharge is 6 years after the conclusion of his service. I know mine is dated from the day of discharge (June of '85, twenty years ago, woo hoo).
