The Colonel and Little Missie

Nice review of what sounds like a very interesting book over at Salon. The one point that the reviewer seems to miss between today's celebrities and yesteryear's celebrities is that, in fact, those old time celebrities did... something... Today's celebrities for the most part graduate high school and then get started on the road to stardom. Some of them go to college. A few even hold down a job waiting tables for a year or two. Most of the rest are simply spoiled rich kids famous for being famous. While Bill Cody & Annie Oakeley weren't the greatest scouts or trick shot artists of their day, they both had real, applied talents, prior to becoming famous and that depth of character is part of what made them enduring, as opposed to people like Paris Hilton whose fame is unlikely to outlive her youth.

I don't read many biographies, but I might add this one to my wish list.
