Bolton and the Downing Street Memo

Politics at their finest. Now the Demosprats have tied the Downing Street Memo to the topic of Bolton's nomination to the UN. But of course they aren't being obstructionist.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid demanded a full accounting of whether Bolton exaggerated assessments of several countries' weapons programs, a key issue in the long-stalled nomination.

"All over the news the last few days has been concerns about weapons of mass destruction by virtue of the memo that was discovered," the Nevada Democrat said, referring to the so-called "Downing Street memo."

The July 2002 memo, prepared for British Prime Minister Tony Blair, said President Bush had already decided to invade Iraq and intelligence was being made to fit that policy.

"Concerns about this administration hyping intelligence and Great Britain hyping intelligence cannot be dismissed lightly," Reid said, adding that it "is no small matter for us to learn whether Mr. Bolton was a party to other efforts to hype intelligence."

Why is it that all those senate investigations into the hype all cleared Bush, but the bandying about on the topic persists. Bolton to the best of my knowledge wasn't even a major player.

As for the Administration, why don't they just hand over the documents and prove the Dems are obstructing. Even forced to act with all the information, they won't let this come to a vote. I see no reason, beyond legal issues, for not releasing the information. If there are legal issues, then state the reason clearly to the public and let the Dems swing in the breeze over it.

This bit of political mumbo-jumbo is just pathetic.
