Therapy As Culture

You have to love Book TV on C-Span. The two women that wrote this book gave an incredibly fascinating overview, answering questions and giving examples. My favorite was when therapists in the US, in an honest attempt to help, went over to the tsunami zone with coloring books & crayons so that children could "heal" by drawing their pain and anguish into the coloring books. No doubt the amount of money it took to fly out a few people with some stacks of books & crayons wasn't much, but even that money would have been better spent on some clean water, food, clothes, shelter, something actually bloody useful. They describe how group therapies for trauma victims apparently extends the recovery period instead of shortening it. It was pretty amazing.

Might I add, again, I love C-Span.
