History Channel and Conspiracy

Professor Bainbridge points out this sour egg on the History Channel.

Here at ProfessorBainbridge.com, we dote on conspiracy theories, so we are very much enjoying the History Channel's Conspiracy? documentary, which is advancing various theories about massive government conspiracies to kill Martin Luther King, Jr. As a reasonably logical fellow, of course, I always have a problem buying such theories. If some powerful government conspiracy could kill MLK, why wouldn't the same powerful forces be able to shut down a documentary that would expose them? Unless, of course, the conspiracy has co-opted the documentarians so as to present false theories to muddy the waters. Sort of like the Purloined Letter: Hide the conspiracy in plain view? But, then again, if there was a shadowy force behind the government capable of pulling off such a conspiracy, why can't the government get anything else right? We ought to find these guys and turn them loose on something like Social Security.
I suppose you could roughly argue that discussion of conspiracies is within the realm of historical review, but that's not what we have here.

Another wonderful show on the HistoryChannel.
