Hanson Debate at Dartmouth

Interesting read, though just the highlights.
After I read this, I wondered what rock was Professor Edsforth living under.

Oh wait, He's in Academia.

There's this article at VDH's website that discusses free speech in academia and the cases of Summers and Churchill.

Fascinating. The arguments against Hanson were singularly vapid. "Let's radically reduce our military in size, then instead of using it offensively, we'll use it as a deterrence." So, we'll reduce the size & effectiveness in order to make it so that it can't be used offensively. Then, we'll keep the monsters of the world in line by deterence, fear, of the reduced, less effective, non-offensive military that we won't use. I guess I'm a troglodyte, but doesn't deterrence actually require something to deter with. "Keep back or we'll sic these paper mache puppets and our shoes on you. We've got rape whistles..."

The history I've been reading about the inter-war years of the 20s and 30s tell of the British doing just what the Dartmouth prof is saying we should do. Again, this guy is showing a total lack of historical perspective.

If this is the best that they can do for anti-war arguments, they failed miserably.
