Hunter S. Thompson on Security

Saw this linked at Schneier on Security.

Security ... what does this word mean in relation to life as we know it today? For the most part, it means safety and freedom from worry. It is said to be the end that all men strive for; but is security a utopian goal or is it another word for rut?

Read the rest of the piece. It's pretty much spot on. I don't think it's correct as a philosophy for your whole life, but it's better than what most Americans are living. If you read this blog, which I find unlikely, you know I have a very sore spot about the extreme complacency of the American citizenry.

Thompson may have been a crank in a lot of things, but when he got things right I think he hit the bull's eye.
