This is a wow.
An experimental vaccine against cervical cancer has cleared its final clinical hurdle, showing in a large trial of more than 12,000 women that it is 100% effective in blocking the major forms of the disease, its manufacturer said Thursday. Merck Inc. said it would seek Food and Drug Administration approval for the vaccine, called Gardasil, this year and could begin marketing it next year. The vaccine immunizes against human papilloma virus, or HPV, the primary cause of cervical cancer.100% Effective is amazing. I don't believe that is common in any medical treatment.

Don't believe the hype. Ever.
12,000 is a big study, but 100% is just about never reality (except then it is =)). Seriously though, an immunization against HPV would pretty much wipe out cervical cancer.
Me? Hopeful, but swallowing only sinker. Not yet ready for hook and line.
Completely agree. I wonder how they determine success. Obviously they aren't intentionally trying to expose the women of the study to the antigen, but how do they know that these women were exposed?
I suppose statistically that some of the subjects could be exposed, but how many? Doesn't that make this statement even more suspect?
Again, It's one of those cases where you would have to see the test procedures and results to understand how they can come to that claim.
Still, I really hope this is true. They stated the vaccination would even work with men to help in reducing/eliminating this form of STD.
