EU/US Internet Wrangling

I've spoken on this before. Though mostly in relation to the UN getting control of the management of the internet. I do think that the US having sole control is probably something that will have to be rethought soon.
The European Union insisted Friday that governments and the private sector must share the responsibility of overseeing the Internet, setting the stage for a showdown with the United States on the future of Internet governance. A senior U.S. official reiterated Thursday that the country wants to remain the Internet's ultimate authority, rejecting calls in a United Nations meeting in Geneva for a U.N. body to take over.
There is a lot of problems with the committee model that they appear to be proposing. Changes in how Domain Names and IP Addresses are utilized could have a serious impact on how the present Internet works. Not to mention uses of non-arabic text for domain names, could be a difficult change to overcome.

Government involvements is also a major quandary. Some governments have shown that they won't allow the use of the internet freely. (China, Iran, etc.) I'm reticent on allowing them a say in overall policy which could obviously have detrimental affects to the resources of the Internet overall.
